About us
The Family and our Passion
We are a family of six here at Brúnastaðir farm: Stefanía Hjördís Leifdóttir and Jóhannes Helgi Ríkharðsson and our four children – Ríkey Þöll, Kristinn Knörr, Ólafur Ísar and Leifur Hlér. Additionally, the family includes on average three foster children at any time and hosts intern students from the Agricultural school in Greenland.
In addition to running accommodations for travelers, we keep around 750 sheep, making the autumn fun when we herd over 2000 ewes and lambs from the mountains.
On our farm, you can find most kinds of Icelandic farm animals: goats, cows and calves, piglets, rabbits as well as horses, dogs, cats, and several breeds of hens. Some of these animals are working animals, but they are all family friends.
In the fall of 2020, we started our own food production at the farm. We have focused on artisan cheesemaking from our goat and sheep milk. In the fall of 2021, we opened a small market at our farm where we sell our own products: cheeses, eggs, and various meat products.
In the summers, we like to plant trees, and over the years, we have planted over 70.000 trees in an area of 32 hectares.
